Our environmental responsibility.

Being nestled in the beautiful grounds of the Saughton walled gardens has helped us embrace the importance of our ethical responsibility. We at CEC-Catering have always endeavored to do our best to implement good working practices. We implement these ethical procedures when sourcing local produce, seasonal produce at ‘The Garden Bistro’. What could be more local than from the back door of the kitchen eliminating food miles and minimizing food waste.

In addition to our company’s ethos of locally sourced, seasonal, sustainable, fresh produce we only use free range eggs and red tractor chicken to ensure the food is traceable, safe to eat and has been produced responsibly. Red tractor chicken standards cover animal welfare, food safety, traceability and environmental protection. The Union Flag in the red tractor logo indicates the food has been farmed, processed and packed in the United Kingdom.

Whilst striving to make our effect on the environment minimal we have teamed up with change works recycling our preferred waste and resource management company whose track record of waste management is second to none gaining them the accolade of ‘The official waste management provider to Her Majesty The Queen’.

Change works feel that waste comes at a cost whilst recycling has a value and so do we!

To reduce our adverse effect on the environment we look to minimize our carbon footprint through sensible recycling. We are looking to publish our monthly food waste report online so keep an eye on this page and our blog for updates.

Through another of our partners Clean line we have implemented environmentally friendly cleaning products again to reduce the adverse effect on the environment around us.

The Clean line Eco range represents a major breakthrough in ecological cleaning. These products are powerful, effective and safer than many cleaning chemicals in use. All are non-toxic, non-flammable, non-carcinogenic and non-harmful to marine and aquatic life. Made from environmentally friendly ingredients to be fully user-friendly and biodegradable, they comply with all the current and forthcoming legislation including EC Detergent Regulation 648/2004 and REACH 1907/2006.

In tandem with our waste management partner we are using 100% compostable & recyclable disposable cups, cutlery and containers for visitors to the park that are looking to grab and go. Not all of our customers will be dining in the bistro but enjoying the beauty of the park itself.

We feel It is as much our responsibility to ensure the park remains a beautiful place to relax with a high-quality coffee, seasonal salad, fruit smoothie, sandwich, handmade pie or just a slice of cake. Using our sustainable, compostable, biodegradable, recyclable packaging you can enjoy your snack in the park with the peace of mind that when disposed of correctly the packaging will not end up in landfill. The sustain brand we use can be recycled in normal recycling bins or food waste bins.
